The School of Engineering began its operation in 1985 as a School of Production Sciences, with the establishment of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, as one of the first departments of the newly founded University of Thessaly a year earlier. This was followed by the Department of Engineering of Planning and Regional Development which opened in 1989 and then the Departments of Civil Engineering in 1993, Architectural Engineering in 1999 and Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2000.

With the ever-increasing need for sustainable solutions to address the energy crisis and climate change on the one hand, and the rapid development of technology on the other, the School’s mission is to provide modern education and strengthen research in the fields that the Departments heal, seeking synergies between disciplines, as well as interface with industry, management and society.

The five undergraduate study programs and the postgraduate and doctoral study programs prepare qualified engineers with a breadth of knowledge, abilities and skills so that they can contribute to development based on the needs of society and with respect for the environment and the planet.
