Dean's Greeting

Welcome to the website of the School of Engineering of the University of Thessaly.

The School of Engineering of our University and the Departments that comprise it have set as their goal and are working tirelessly towards academic excellence. In the difficult phase that our country is going through, we are convinced that high-quality teaching and research, provides a significant barrier against the attempt of the general degradation and devaluation of the country and its universities.

The challenges facing Greek universities are multifaceted: international competition is fierce, and domestic conditions are severely strained by the lack of funding due to the economic crisis, but also by the great challenges and changes imposed by the ever-changing legal landscape covering higher education.

Under these difficult conditions, the School of Engineering is called upon to maintain high standards for teaching and research and to strive for continuous improvement. The main pillars of our approach are: a) curricula & teaching, and b) basic & applied research. We seek continuous improvement and update of curricula and course contents, collaborations between departments, the dissemination of research results, the incorporation of new instructional methods, the strengthening of critical and research thinking, the encouragement of pioneering research and experimentation. Results are disseminated through publications, industry presentations and conferences, always in compliance with the principles of academic ethics to which we consciously attach great importance.

However, the necessary human (teachers & staff) and material resources (infrastructure - buildings, funding) are becoming increasingly difficult to find within the context of the economic crisis.

Nevertheless, through collaborations, mobility, and by exploiting all the opportunities presented to us, we strive to successfully deal with the problems we face and to provide our students with the best possible education and the academic community with a noteworthy research presence.

Furthermore, the close relationship with the local community, which the School of Engineering of the University of Thessaly has now established, is building a tradition on which we are constantly working creatively. We believe that this precious relationship is mutually beneficial and a substantial part of our mission.

So together we are moving forward through difficult times setting high goals and a bright vision of the future.
